What does being VEGAN mean?
Ok, to start this series off I thought defining VEGANISM was important! We shall define it and the difference between vegetarian and the levels of vegetarians as well so that the confusion between vegetarian and Vegan doesn’t exist here.
It’s really very simple there is a big difference between vegetarian and VEGAN. So here we go:
Vegetarians do not eat any meat products.
The different levels of vegetarians are:
- Lacto-ovo-vegetarian. Eats both dairy products and eggs. This is the most common type of vegetarian diet.
- Lacto-vegetarian. Eats dairy products but not eggs.
- Ovo-vegetarian. Eats eggs but not dairy products.
- Vegan. Does not eat dairy products, eggs, or any other animal product.
Here at Doggone Healthy Choices we are VEGAN! As well as not eating animal products, we do not wear animal products or use any products that hurt or kill animals.
Reasons VEGANS become Vegan!
There are reasons why people live a VEGAN lifestyle. Of course most recently one reason that is very popular is for HEALTH reasons. (Honestly I think doctors avoid telling their patients to go VEGAN because they will lose people to a healthier way of life!) This was our third reason for going VEGAN here.
The next popular reason to go VEGAN is the environment, In a time where people are going GREEN, going VEGAN protects our trees, our water, and every part of our environment. This was the second reason we here have gone vegan.
And finally and the most important reason we have gone vegetarian back in 1992 and vegan in 2000, are the animals. Vegans do not want to see animals hurt and killed for their benefit. That is to eat, to clothe themselves, etc. Those Vegans with pets (mainly dogs we are talking here) choose not to hurt or kill animals to feed their own dogs/ pets and despite what some people think, this can be done safely. And both people and their dogs can live long happy, healthy lives TOGETHER!
Here on this blog we will go deeper into things and break down things so we know the DETAILS about going VEGAN. We will start the next few days with going into needed nutrients for both people and our dogs.
